White City is a few minutes up the road from our Hammersmith base, and the W12 postcode is one we’re in most weeks. The area has changed fast — the new developments around Westfield and the old BBC site sit alongside the White City estate, the terraces towards Shepherd’s Bush and the flats along Wood Lane — and each type of building brings different electrical work.
In the newer apartments the jobs are usually additions and repairs: extra sockets and data points, replacing builder-grade light fittings with something better, and fault finding when a circuit that was never labelled properly starts tripping. In the older terraces and conversions it’s the familiar West London list — EICRs for landlords, consumer unit upgrades where there’s no RCD protection, and sorting out decades of additions.
We carried out the EICR photographed on this page in White City, fitting inspection labels to a board that had passed — the kind of straightforward, properly documented landlord job that makes up a good part of our W12 diary.
