Electrical Fault Finding & Repairs

Nuisance tripping, dead sockets, flickering lights and burning smells tracked down methodically and fixed properly.

Got a fuse board that trips and won’t reset, a socket that has stopped working, lights that flicker, or a burning smell you can’t place? Fault finding is proper detective work and we’re good at it — we test methodically until we find the actual cause, rather than swapping parts and hoping.

We handle electrical faults across Hammersmith, Chiswick, Shepherd’s Bush, Fulham, Kensington and the rest of West London — in flats, houses, HMOs and small commercial premises. Most faults are found and fixed in a single visit; where a repair needs parts or a return visit, you get a clear price before we go further.

Some faults can’t wait. If you’ve lost power, something is sparking or you can smell burning, see our emergency electrician page and call or WhatsApp us straight away.

Fault finding, the methodical way

Intermittent faults rarely show themselves on demand. We split circuits down, insulation-test each leg, and narrow the fault to a single point — a nicked cable under a floorboard, a cooked connection in a junction box, moisture in an outside light. You pay for a diagnosis and a fix, not for guesswork.

The faults we see most in West London

Outdoor lights and garden sockets letting water in after heavy rain. Kitchen appliances with a failing element tripping the RCD. Lighting circuits with no earth that were fine until someone fitted a metal light. Old junction boxes under floors where a connection has slowly cooked. And in converted flats, circuits that were never labelled properly, so nobody knows what feeds what until we test it.

FAQs

Electrical Fault Finding — your questions

Why does my RCD keep tripping?
Common causes are a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor fitting or a deteriorating cable. Unplugging appliances one by one sometimes finds it; if the trip persists with everything unplugged, the fault is in the fixed wiring and needs testing — that’s where we come in.
Why do my lights flicker?
Usually a loose connection somewhere on the circuit, an incompatible dimmer with LED lamps, or a failing driver in the fitting. Occasionally it points to a loose neutral at the board or the supply, which needs looking at quickly. We test the circuit rather than guess.
What should I do if a socket or switch smells of burning?
Switch the circuit off at the consumer unit, stop using that socket or switch, and contact us. A scorched accessory is usually a loose or overloaded connection behind it — cheap to fix if caught early, and a fire risk if ignored.
Do you charge a call-out fee for fault finding?
We agree the price before we book the visit, so there are no surprises. Send us a WhatsApp describing the symptoms and a photo of your fuse board and we’ll tell you what the diagnosis visit costs and what happens next.
